The Gift of Confession
Pastor’s Column
4th Sunday of Lent
March 11, 2018
The Sacrament of Reconciliation doesn’t just take our sins away: it gives us many benefits! Lent is the perfect time to do some spring cleaning in our soul. Our penance service is this Thursday, March 15th at 7 p.m. In addition to our penance service, Brad is offering a Tuesday night presentation (March 13th) at 7 p.m. on the Power & Importance of Confession. Give yourself a gift that will be a blessing now, in the future and in the world to come as well. Here are some benefits of a good confession:
Reconciliation with God
A personal encounter with Christ
Divine life is restored in our soul
Our soul receives many graces
Confession reminds us of the price of sin
Remission of eternal punishment
Temporal punishment can be diminished
More fruitful participation in the other sacraments
Increases our charity
Cultivates hope
Is a sacrament of healing
God’s mercy is given to us verbally, tangibly, and sacramentally
Fosters growth in both humility and self-knowledge
Helps to form our conscience
Brings psychological benefits
Prevents us from falling into more serious sins
Improves our prayer life
Is a source of spiritual direction
Helps us to become saints
